IOSH Comres Survey reveals that 88% of SME owners unaware of the
£7.8billion cost to industry from workplace accidents & illness each
year. 79% are unaware of savings they can make to their bottom line
from Health & Safety interventions, 52% said their own business
training had not given them a good grounding in Health & Safety.
While Small & medium sized 50+ businesses recognised the business
benefits of Health and Safety initiatives (increase in business secured
or retained,increase in staff retention & improved productivity)
Small and Micro businesses 0-49 employees had not learned this benefit.
38% of those questioned in the 1,001 SME decision makers thought they
would would benefit from Health & Safety Training which equates to
445,000 business SME leaders in the UK responsible for 3.8 million
workers.
